Triggering Callback by SMS
Revised 25 March 2005

In a number of countries, incumbent operators
continually try to bar CallBack services in order to protect their
monopoly. Typical methods of blocking CallBack may be to prevent DTMF
digits being sent thereby making it impossible to dial the destination
number once you have received the CallBack or by blocking access to the
callback number range completely.
The GlobalTel SMS callback service can overcome these
issues and is one of the market leaders in this sector.
The basic concept of the service is that a customer
sends a text message containing the destination number and within a few
seconds receives a CallBack and if requested, connected with any number.

This document describes the procedure for
triggering Callback using any mobile phone offering SMS(Short Message
Service), also known as “text messaging”). SMS allows you to send &
receive text messages using your mobile phone. SMS service is offered by
most major wireless carriers. SMS TEXT MESSAGING is a quick and
convenient way to trigger a callback. GSM phones are most popular
and most available in over 200 countries as of March 2004. Most of
GlobalTel’s markets are serviced by GSM mobile carriers. Sending a
text message is quick, easy, and is either free, or costs a few cents.
GlobalTel callback service is available from every country.
Customers use SMS to trigger callback from
GlobalTel's switches in the USA, to their mobile phone, landline, fax,
or any phone. The text message or (SMS message) from your mobile
phone is not sent thru the Internet. You do not need Internet service
with your mobile phone to use SMS. GSM and other mobile phones offer
SMS text messaging. Make sure that the text messaging function is
activated by your wireless carrier. To test your SMS service send a
message to yourself – to your mobile phone.
How do CallBack Customers trigger a callback
from their Mobile by SMS? On your mobile phone find MENU, then
MESSAGES, then CREATE A MESSAGE. Send an SMS text message in the
following formats:
You can save or preset several SMS messages (one for
each number you call frequently). When the SMS text message is sent, the
GlobalTel system will call back as soon as our servers receive the
message. The callback may be immediate or it could also be delayed at
times. Any delay would be caused by the foreign servers or the Internet
system.
TO MAKE MULTIPLE CALLS, press * * after each
call and you are prompted to make another call.
GlobalTel customers can also trigger call back by
going to the GlobalTel website –
www.Trigger.GlobalTel.biz
There is no charge, in most countries, for
an incoming callback to a mobile phone using GSM technology (Global
System for Mobiles). This system, referred to as “Calling Party Pays”,
is prevalent in Europe and most of Asia – over 200 GSM countries.
GlobalTel customers in these countries can make international calls to
any country from their mobile phones without being charged by their
wireless carrier. A callback can be triggered by: 1) speed-dialing the
callback access number and hanging up after one ring, or, 2) by sending
an SMS text message. Either way is quick and easy from a GSM or other
mobile phone offering SMS.
SMS (short messaging service)
SMS use is increasing rapidly, worldwide, for additional uses. Text
messages about news, sports, banking, stocks, etc., are available. More
information about SMS can be found in GSM Technology – www.gsmworld.com/technology.
SMS INFORMATION FROM GLOBALTEL'S TELECOM GLOSSARY
SMS - Short Message Service. SMS-enabled phones
allow users to send and receive short text messages without placing an
actual phone call. GlobalTel callback customers can trigger a callback
by sending an SMS message to GlobalTel's switch.
SMS provides the ability to receive text on your
phone in the form of an alert or an alphanumeric page. For example,
Singapore telecom offers Directory Assistance SMS services for its
mobile customers - the requested phone number is sent to the customer's
mobile phone by SMS as a text message.
SMS is popular in all countries where mobile phone
rates are high and is widely used in Europe and Japan. The text messages
can be sent to another mobile phone or to an email address. These
messages are usually limited to 160 characters, and must be entered on
phone keypad.
GlobalTel customers using GlobalTel's callback
service, or CallMeBack phone cards, use mobile phone SMS text messaging
to trigger callback. The customer can also put in a message to trigger a
callback and automatically connect to the destination number. This is
referred to as SMS DIRECT DIAL.
This system allows customers to trigger a callback
in countries where the local PTT is blocking Callback and is also
blocking the customer’s Internet domain so the customer cannot trigger
callback by Internet. SMS text messaging sent by mobile phones does not
travel by Internet and is not blocked.
